Donor Egg

IVF with Donor Eggs at Birla Fertility & IVF

IVF with donor eggs can help couples who are unable to use their own eggs in IVF for any reason. The treatment cycle is like that of conventional IVF with the exception that the eggs used in the cycle are sourced from licensed donor agencies. As per government guidelines, information about the couple and the donors are kept confidential.

At Birla Fertility & IVF, we offer access to high-quality donor eggs, sourced from government authorised agencies. We match donors to the couple based on physical characteristics and blood typing for best results. The decision to undergo donor IVF can be a challenging one. Our team offers complete support to the couple at every step so that they can undergo their treatment with confidence.

Steps to becoming an egg donor

There are a few steps that can help you become an egg donor candidate:

  • Between the ages of 18 and 32 years old
  • Menstrual cycles that are regular
  • Non-smoker
  • Having two ovaries
  • I am not currently using any psychoactive drugs.
  • Having no prior history of substance abuse
  • Having no ancestors with inheritable genetic disorders

Why Donor Eggs?

IVF with donor eggs is recommended to couples in the following situations:

If the couple is unable to conceive due to reasons like advanced maternal age, poor ovarian reserve, and premature ovarian failure

If there is a high risk of passing on a genetic abnormality or condition to the child
on the maternal side

If the woman’s ovarian function is impaired due to reasons like cancer treatments

Donor Cycle with Donor Eggs

Egg donors are sourced from registered government agencies after a thorough discussion with the couple. Donors are matched to the couple based on physical characteristics specified by them and the blood group of both partners.

The donor is called on day 2 of the treatment cycle to undergo a thorough medical screening and ovarian reserve testing. The donor is stimulated with fertility medications for follicle development and increased egg production. Their response to the medications is monitored through regular ultrasounds.

Donor eggs are harvested after ovarian stimulation and are fertilised in the laboratory with the sperm of the male partner. The resulting embryos are frozen and transferred after appropriately building the endometrial lining in the female partner.

Frequently Asked Questions

As per guidelines set by the Indian Council of Medical Research, Egg donors are sourced from licensed government agencies where they undergo stringent screening to ensure the quality of harvested eggs while safeguarding the health of the donors.

Patients can specify physical characteristics like height which they desire in the donor as well as the blood type. The identity of the donor is kept strictly confidential as per government guidelines.

In a treatment cycle with “fresh” donor eggs, the patient (recipient) also undergoes hormone therapy alongside the donor to prepare the uterus for the embryo transfer process. If frozen donor eggs are used, the transfer is done when the patient’s uterine environment is optimal. Hormone based medications can be recommended if required.

ICMR guidelines state egg donors must be between the ages of 21 years – 35 years, with no history of genetic disorders. They are screened for viral markers like HIV and Hepatitis. Ovarian reserve testing is done to ascertain the quality of eggs in the donor.
