A condition of abnormal growth of endometrial cells is known as endometriosis. These abnormal growths are grown outside of the uterus. This condition is mostly found in other organs of the pelvis. The condition is more common in women experiencing infertility, but endometriosis does not necessarily cause infertility. The exact cause of the condition is unknown, and most of the women with endometriosis shows no symptoms. However, when a woman does encounter signs and symptoms of endometriosis they may include:
- Pelvic pain during menstruation
- Painful sexual intercourse
- Painful bowel movements
- Pain during urination
Endometriosis can be identified on the types of symptoms a woman is having. Sometimes, a physical examination by a gynaecologist can identify the presence of endometriosis. But the definite diagnosis is confirmed by surgery like laparoscopy. Endometriosis treatments are also available- such as medication and surgery to relieve the symptoms.
