High Blood Pressure and Fertility

Obesity, high cholesterol, stress, and a lack of physical activity can all contribute to high blood pressure. High blood pressure is also something that some women can inherit from family. It’s not as simple as you might assume to figure out what to do about high blood pressure before getting pregnant.

Eating a good diet and exercising are undoubtedly important pre-pregnancy goals, doctors have disagreed on whether or not to begin blood pressure medication before you get pregnant. If your blood pressure is consistently higher than normal when you’re at rest, that is a clear indication that medication is required. 

But you can not treat hypertension with medication unless there’s evidence of kidney failure and heart diseases, which is what is looked at in infertile women with hypertension. Therefore, the infertile patient’s problem is that lowering her high blood pressure may take some time.
