What is In Vitro Maturation (IVM)?

In Vitro Maturation or IVM is a kind of assisted reproductive technology where immature eggs are taken out from the ovaries, and then matured in the laboratory before fertilisation. When they get mature, they are inseminated with sperm, and the resultant embryos are then transferred back into the uterus. IVM differs from standard IVF in that the eggs do not mature within the ovaries, but outside of the body in a lab setup.
