IVF Treatment in Test

Your IVF journey at our Test clinic will start with a thorough consultation. During this time, our fertility specialists will ask you about your medical history, they may prescribe some essential diagnostic tests and address your concerns. The process of ovarian stimulation requires hormone injection treatments to produce several eggs in one cycle. The procedure results in higher chances of obtaining eggs with excellent quality. Blood tests along with transvaginal ultrasounds, help your fertility specialist monitor follicle development where adjustments may be made to medications (if required) for optimal results.

After the eggs mature, they are collected from the ovaries through a minor surgical procedure called follicular aspiration. You will be given light anaesthesia using an ultrasound-guided needle for this process. The procedure usually takes 20–30 minutes and will be performed at our Test clinic. Most women can go home the same day and resume their normal activity within a day or two.

The male partner provides a semen sample for sperm retrieval. Some couples may have opted for donor sperm; in that case, donor sperm will be utilised. The sample is processed in the lab to select the healthiest sperm. Surgical sperm retrieval techniques may be used for men with very little or no sperm in the semen.

Laboratory conditions allow the prepared sperm to unite with eggs under a controlled environment resulting in embryo development. In specific scenarios, doctors may suggest ICSI–a form of IVF that involves injecting one sperm directly into each egg to improve the success rates. The embryos are closely monitored for a period of 3 to 5 days in order to ensure that they are developing properly before they can be transferred into the uterus.

On day 3 or day 5 post-fertilisation, one or more healthy embryos are selected and transferred into the uterus using a thin catheter. The procedure is painless although it can cause slight discomfort to some women. The number of embryos transferred depends on a number of factors like age, embryo quality and medical history. Any remaining good-quality embryos can be frozen for future use.

Post embryo transfer, after a gap of around 10 to 14 days, a blood test is done to measure the level of hCG, also known as the pregnancy hormone, to confirm pregnancy. If the test is positive, follow-up scans will be done to confirm the progress of the pregnancy. If it is negative, your doctor will guide you on the next steps, including reviewing frozen embryos or considering another cycle.
