How Is Teratospermia Diagnosed?
Teratospermia is diagnosed through a set series of steps. It usually begins with a medical history and physical examination to identify possible causes of abnormal sperm morphology. The main test for Teratospermia is a semen analysis, which evaluates the shape, number, and motility of sperm. Sperm morphological assessment helps determine the percentage of normally shaped sperm. Depending on the results, additional blood, hormone, or genetic testing may be recommended. Specialists use these results to confirm the diagnosis and guide appropriate treatment.

How Is Teratospermia Diagnosed?
The main diagnostic method for teratozoospermia is semen analysis. In this test, a semen sample is tested in a laboratory to evaluate several characteristics of the semen. A typical semen analysis can assess:
- Sperm Concentration: The number of sperm present in a sample. It helps assess whether sperm count falls within the expected range or not.
- Motility: How well the sperm moves. This helps determine whether sperm can move effectively towards the egg or not.
- Morphology: The size, shape, and structure of individual sperm cells. The abnormal shape of the sperm can affect their ability to fertilise an egg.
- Sperm Volume: The amount of semen produced. It helps assess whether the volume of ejaculate falls within the expected range or not.
- Other Parameters: Varies depending on laboratory and clinical situation. These parameters can include pH, vitality, and other indicators of semen quality.
To test for sperm teratozoospermia, a sample is prepared in a laboratory and the sperm are examined under a microscope. Sperm are evaluated according to accepted morphological criteria and the percentage meeting specific criteria for normal morphology is recorded.
