Covid-19 has changed and affected our lives both physically and mentally. People who are planning a baby are now concerned more than ever about if covid can lead to infertility?
Dr. Souren Bhattacharjee a renowned IVF specialist with 32+ years of working experience in India, consultant at Birla Fertility & IVF shares his views on how Covid-19 has increased the chances of infertility in couples. He suggested that covid-19 has a significant impact on male and female fertility. Men with fever lasting more than 3 days have shown signs of infertility. There have been threats of decreased sperm count, risk of testicular inflammation & pain, and inflammation in the sperm duct.
Women post covid recovery have seen changes in their menstrual cycles or hormone levels and also if their avoid involved high fever then chances are it might affect their ovulation periods as well.
It is essential to keep your stress levels in control because as Dr. Souren explains, the stress, anxiety caused due to working from home along with the constant fear of pandemic might negatively affect the healthy reproductive system of individuals.
